Over the last two millennia the power of neighbouring clans has waxed and waned. To have survived at all is a remarkable achievement. Off our current neighbours the McDougall's are the oldest, being the ancient Lords of Lorne, with the Stewarts and Campbell's comparatively young families. It is interesting to note that our clan is incorrectly described as a sept of all three of the great clans mentioned above. All of them have of course been lords of Lorne in their time and all descended from Somerled and the royal house of Argyll and Dalriada. |
