Clan
Heraldry Technically there is no Clan Heraldry as such. The Clan derives its heraldry from its chief. Of interest to most people is the Crest. A clansman or clanswomen shows his allegiance to the clan by wearing the chief's crest surrounded by a belt and buckle. The Crest The crest shows St Moluag with his golden "circle of glory" holding aloft his crozier - the Bachuil Mor in his right hand and the blue cross-crosslet fitchée in his left hand. The Motto is Cnoc Aingeil. For those who are interested the Lord Lyon will grant a Coat of
Arms to any "virtuous and well serving person" who falls
within his jurisdiction. This is interpreted quite widely to include
most Scots -
so why not obtain your very own arms?
